Learning to let go

Mental health is often disturbed my the inability to let go of ideals, beliefs, and behaviors that no longer support the life we currently want to live.

We learn in childhood the beliefs and behaviors of the adults around us. As we grow and intake information that is different from the things we learn as children we may find that what we believe to be true doesn’t fit with our current understanding of our world. This can and often does bring about great internal conflict.

In counseling we work to identify the values of the client and any changes that have been made to those values over time. Identifying the differences between the two and letting go of what no longer serves us generally helps relieve that inner conflict conflict.

Not everyone is ready to make those changes though.

When I work with clients, I help them see for themselves where they are stuck and identify what those values are currently. It is easier for them to let go that way. Making change isn’t easy but it feels a lot better when we adapt. I encourage you to consider what you can let go of today.

Many blessings
