New year new beginnings

January of the new year always seems to create a sense of renewal and brings up all of the things we want to change about ourselves and our lives.

Have you ever noticed that about halfway through December you begin to see ads for weight loss, improving your life and even over hauling your very existence?

Of course, you do. Winter is the time we begin to take stock of our lives. We tend to be in close association with everything we own and everyone that we are close to. This puts what we are not facing right in the middle of our line of sight. Those things we have ignored are then topics of our intensive focus.

Have you ever felt that you needed to clear out the garage in the winter because it has been the dumping ground of everything you didn’t want to look at over the course of the last nine months?

The future is where we tend to live when our lives in the now are not satisfying our needs. Healthy expressions of self-care like cleaning up your underwear drawer to including only those that fit and are comfortable somehow doesn’t look as exciting as planning a trip to the Bahamas. In truth, facing the underwear issues will bring you some much needed relief. Imagine if next week, next month or next year you got up every day and only had underwear that fit you comfortably, matched your clothes and helped you feel good all day?

It is really the little changes we make every day that give us the future we want for ourselves.

Take a look around you today. How many things are in your life that no longer fit there.

Make an agreement with yourself this winter to allow anything and everything to find its way into or out of your life without any resistance. You may have loved that underwear in 2010 but maybe not so much in 2020.

Here is to a winter of small changes over time toward a happier future.
